Robotics Manufacturing FAQs

  • What types of custom robotics components can Mastars manufacture?

Mastars manufactures custom mechanical components based on customer CAD files and drawings, including robot joint housings, actuator housings, motor mounts, end-effectors, gripper components, sensor and LiDAR mounts, enclosures, frames, brackets, AMR chassis parts, and assembly fixtures.

We focus on custom-manufactured mechanical parts and assemblies rather than standard off-the-shelf motors, controls, or complete robotic systems.

  • What materials are commonly used for robotic components?

Available options include aluminum 6061 and 7075, stainless steel, carbon steel, titanium, POM/Delrin, nylon, PC/ABS, silicone, TPU, and polyurethane. PEEK and other specialty grades can be reviewed by project.

Material selection depends on the actual function of the part. Aluminum is often chosen for lightweight structures, POM for low-friction components, stainless steel for strength and corrosion resistance, and engineering plastics for covers, guides, insulators, and lightweight functional parts.

  • What tolerances can you achieve for precision robotic components?

For suitable CNC-machined features, Mastars can support tolerances down to ±0.005 mm. The achievable tolerance depends on part geometry, material, feature size, machining access, and inspection method.

Not every dimension needs this level of precision. Bearing seats, shaft interfaces, joint datums, motor mounting faces, and sensor locations usually deserve more attention than non-critical exterior dimensions.

  • How long does robotics prototyping take?

It depends on the part, process, material, quantity, finishing, and inspection requirements. Simple CNC or 3D-printed prototypes can often be completed within several days, while complex assemblies, special materials, tight tolerances, or multiple finishes require more time.

Once we review your CAD files, we can confirm the manufacturing route, identify schedule risks, and provide a project-specific lead time.

  • Do you offer 3D printing as well as CNC machining for robotics prototypes?

Yes. Mastars supports CNC machining, 3D printing, sheet metal fabrication, and vacuum casting for robotics prototyping.

The right process depends on what you are trying to validate. 3D printing is useful for geometry, packaging, and rapid iteration, while CNC machining is usually better when you need machined stock materials, tighter interfaces, or more representative mechanical testing.

  • Can you support low-volume robotics production?

Yes. Mastars supports one-off prototypes, pilot builds, low-volume production, and repeat manufacturing.

Low-volume production is often appropriate for robotics because designs may continue changing after initial field testing. CNC machining and sheet metal fabrication can reduce early tooling commitment, while bridge tooling and injection molding become more attractive once the design and demand are sufficiently stable.

  • How do you control fit and assembly on robotic components?

We review critical dimensions, datums, bearing and shaft interfaces, mounting features, clearances, and tolerance stack-up before manufacturing. Inspection can include CMM measurement, first article inspection, dimensional inspection, and in-process checks according to project requirements.

A part can meet its individual drawing dimensions and still create an assembly problem if the tolerance chain is poorly controlled. That is why mating interfaces and alignment-sensitive features should be identified early.

  • Can you protect confidential robotics designs and CAD files?

Yes. Project drawings, CAD files, and technical information are handled as confidential project data, and NDA requirements can be discussed before detailed design information is shared.

For early inquiries, rough information is enough to start. You can initially provide the part type, approximate size, material, quantity, and key requirements, then share sensitive files once the confidentiality arrangement is confirmed.
