Data:22 January, 2022 Author:Mastars

Mastars' rapid prototyping service can provide various 3D printing prototyping services according to customers' needs, verify your designed, provide fast, efficient and cost-effective services, and lay the foundation for future mass production of your products.

Previous chapter: Advantages and disadvantages of 3D printing. Today we will introduce several other common 3D printing technologies 1.

FDM technology

FDM(Fused Deposition Modeling) is to use high temperature to extrude and melt the filamentous material into a liquid state, and spray it through a nozzle that can move in the X-Y direction. After rapid cooling, a layer of cross-section is formed on the worktable. The worktable sinks to the height of one layer, then The next layer is finally arranged in the three-dimensional space to form a three-dimensional object.

The raw materials used in FDM are mainly polypropylene, ABS with good thermal stability and chemical resistance, and casting wax, etc.

FDM is also the most common 3D printing mode we see at home or on the market, usually used to print artwork for display. In industrial applications, FDM is suitable for applications ranging from conceptual models to demanding production parts.

FDM 3D Printing

Advantages of FDM process:
1. The structure is simple, no expensive components such as lasers are needed, and the machine is cheap.
2. The optional materials are flexible and have no pollution of poisonous gas or chemical substances
3. The material utilization rate is high, there are many materials available, and the price is relatively cheap.
4. Easy to remove support.

5. The material has the advantages of good strength-to-weight ratio, durability and reliability.

Disadvantages of FDM process:
1.The prototype surface produced has obvious stripes and rough surface, which requires late polishing treatment and the precision can only reach 0.1mm.
2. Small strength in the direction perpendicular to the section.
3. Molding speed is relatively slow, nozzle is easy to block, inconvenient maintenance, etc.
