Nowadays, in the process of machining products developing towards diversification and precision, improving mold quality has become an important task. In the process of mold manufacturing, the grinding and polishing of the part surface after shape processing has become an important process to improve the mold quality.

Reasonable use of polishing method is of great help to improve the quality and service life of the die. So, what are the common polishing methods?

accuracy of parts

1. mechanical polishing

Mold polishing, by cutting or plastic deformation of the surface, and removing the protruding part of the workpiece surface to obtain a smooth surface polishing method. The most commonly used are oilstone strips, wool wheels, sandpaper, etc. they are mainly operated manually. For those with high surface quality requirements, ultra precision grinding can be used. Ultra precision lapping and polishing adopts special abrasive tools to press the workpiece on the machined surface for high-speed rotation in the lapping and polishing liquid containing abrasive.

2. chemical polishing

The basic principle of chemical polishing is that the micro convex part of the surface is preferentially dissolved than the concave part through the substances in the chemical medium, so as to obtain a smooth plane. This method has a good polishing effect for workpieces with complex shapes, and can also complete the polishing of multiple workpieces, with high efficiency.

3. electrolytic polishing

The basic principle of electropolishing is similar to that of chemical polishing. Both of them achieve the goal of smooth surface by selectively dissolving the small protruding parts on the surface of the material. Compared with chemical polishing, it has a good effect on eliminating cathode reaction.

4. ultrasonic polishing

Ultrasonic polishing is a kind of machining method that uses the tool section for ultrasonic vibration to polish brittle and hard materials through abrasive suspension. The workpiece with abrasive suspension is placed in the ultrasonic field, and the abrasive is ground and polished on the workpiece surface through the vibration of ultrasonic. Ultrasonic machining has small macro force and will not cause workpiece deformation, but its disadvantage is that it is difficult to make and install tooling.

5. fluid polishing

Fluid polishing mainly relies on the flowing liquid and abrasive particles to wash the workpiece surface to achieve the purpose of polishing. Hydrodynamic grinding is driven by hydraulic pressure. The medium is mainly made of special compound with good flowability under low pressure and mixed with abrasive. The abrasive can be silicon carbide powder.

6. magnetic grinding and polishing

Magnetic abrasive polishing mainly uses abrasive brush under the condition of magnetic field to grind the workpiece surface. The advantage of this method is that the processing efficiency is high, the quality is good, and the processing conditions are relatively easy to control.

7. EDM ultrasonic composite polishing

In order to improve the surface polishing speed, composite polishing is often used to polish the workpiece surface, that is, ultrasonic vibration and electric pulse corrosion act on the workpiece surface at the same time, which can quickly reduce the surface roughness. This method is very effective for polishing the rough surface of the die.
